Where to listen to music in Santiago

27/08/2018

If you like music, come to Santiago and decide to stay at one of our hotels, we can not help but congratulate you because you are surrounded by emblematic places that usually host live shows. You have to know that, despite its medium size, the city has several concert halls and a varied and dynamic cultural program with musical events and festivals for all tastes. Sharpen your ear because we tell you about all the proposals.

Mythical bars with live music

The squares and streets near the Cathedral -yes, right where our hotels are located-host several of the most emblematic coffee shops and nightlife in Santiago. The city enjoys a lively nightlife due in large part to its age-old university status and many of the establishments retain the charm of the historic Compostela stones. A Casa das Crechas -an inexcusable visit for lovers of folk music- the Borriquita de Belém -for the jazzmaniacs-; o A Reixa -oriented towards rock and punk- are some of the classics, without forgetting the Embora, A Gramola ... or the Momo a Rúa, where, in addition to the music of singer-songwriters, we can enjoy their gardens. Already in the new zone, it is mandatory to highlight Dado Dada, jazz club opened in 1980.

Concert halls

There are two names that you have to aim at in the historic center: Sala Riquela -restaurant, cocktail bar and concert hall- and Sónar. Outside the walls we find the Sala Capitol, Malatesta or Moon. Bands and musicians both alternative and legendary, tributes to large groups and the most diverse styles have a place in the scheduled concerts. Also festivals and own events.

Stable programming

The complete cultural agenda of the city includes different musical proposals throughout the year. It highlights the seasonal program of the Auditorio de Galicia, home of the Real Filharmonía de Galicia. However, it is in summer when we witness a true musical explosion, which is also free. We can enjoy several hundred concerts in this way thanks to Atardecer no Gaiás, a summer event at the Cidade da Cultura that serves as a showcase for the latest musical trends; Feito a man, street festival that in August occupies squares and streets of the Vella Zone; o Música en Compostela, an international course in Spanish music that has been held since 1958, and schedules recitals and concerts in unique places in the historic city.

The next big event will be from 12 to 16 September the fifth edition of the Wos Festival x SON Estrella Galicia, a meeting that, with alternative and avant-garde music as a standard, proposes concerts, sound art, film, performance, colloquia and framed lectures in a dozen emblematic spaces of Santiago. Laurel Halo, Abul Mogard, Ron Morelli or Spectrum are some of the poster artists.

Parties and events

But in addition to these stable appointments, we must not lose sight of the agenda of parties and unique events. This year Iván Ferreiro performed in May at the Festas da Ascensión, the Son do Camiño Festival brought in June artists such as Jamiroquai, Lenny Kravitz, The Killers or Martin Garrix; In July Rubén Blades made a stop in Santiago on his farewell tour in the framework of the Festas do Apóstolo, this August Ricky Martin visited us and in October, the Brazilian band Tribalistas will offer in our city one of his only three concerts in Spain.

With this offer, I'm sure you're thinking of coming to Santiago. Remember that our three hotels are located in the old town of Compostela and we will be happy to welcome you.
