02/05/2017

With such an influx of people who wish to make this journey, it is logical that there is more diversity in the offer of routes to follow to get to Compostela. From Compostela Net Hotels we help you discover three of the roads that are in full swing this 2017!

North Road:

It was one of the first roads that the pilgrims began to follow after the discovery of the tomb of the Apostle. It is currently the second longest route (823km), behind the Vía de la Plata. For a few years, it was a route that happened to a totally secondary plane, but with the height that is living the Road at the present time, has returned to take importance. For those who decide to take this road along the coast, it is one of the most beautiful, attractive and emotional. It was named a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2015.

Stages: Hendaya - Donosti - Zarautz - Guernika - Bilbao - Laredo - Santander - Santillana del Mar - Comillas - Llanes - Ribadesella; From here, two variants: internal, by Oviedo (where it connects with the Primitivo Way) or coastal, by Avilés and Luarca, until entering Galicia by Ribadeo - Mondoñedo - Vilalba - Sobrado - Santiago.

Primitive Road:

This route is considered the oldest, as it reconstructs the steps of the first pilgrim of the Camino de Santiago, the Asturian king Alfonso II. After the tomb of James the Apostle, King Alfonso II did not hesitate to leave Oviedo (where he was at the time) as a sign of devotion. Thanks to their work, began the projects that would end up giving rise to the Cathedral that we know today.
At present, the influx of pilgrims is moderate, which gives the traveler a great peace and quiet. It is also qualified as one of the roads with greater spiritual value and as a demanding route on landscapes of great beauty.

Stages: Oviedo - Grado-Salas - Tineo - Polla de Allande - La Mesa-Grandas de Salime -Fonsagada - Cadavo Baleira - Lugo - San Román da Retorta - Melide (from here we continue on the French Way to Santiago).

Fisterra Road:

Today, the Camino de Fisterra has become an almost obligatory extension of the Camino, regardless of the route you have decided to follow to get to Compostela. This extension follows the pagan tradition of reaching the "Finis Mundi", and is full of mysticism and nature: no pilgrim wants to miss the sunset on the so-called "End of the World." In addition, tradition causes travelers to divest themselves of belongings or clothes that accompanied them during the Camino de Santiago just at the end of this journey, which are often burned, to symbolize the beginning of a new life.

Stages (2 to choose): Santiago-Negreira-Olveiroa-Fisterra-Muxía the Santiago-Negreira-Olveiroa-Muxía-Fisterra
