Music, confetti, masks, feathers and color flood every year from the end of February until early March the streets of Santiago de Compostela on the occasion of the celebration of the "Entroido", the Galician Carnival. Locals and visitors of all ages parade characterized by all kinds of characters, either with classic costumes, or with allusions to the latest news.

By this time, the city of Compostela - like the rest of Galicia - is immersed in a clear festive atmosphere whose main protagonist is O Meco. This traditional cardboard-stone doll -which is characterized each year as one of the characters that have marked the current political or social- opens the program of the parties with a parade through the main streets of the historic center of the city, from the Cervantes square - very close to our Hotel San Bieito - to the O Toural square.

In addition to the party and the costumes, the Carnival in Compostela is also lived through the gastronomy. If seasonal specialties such as the lamprey or cocido reign at the tables of houses and restaurants, during dessert these are filled with different types of sweets. Pancakes, ears, rings and flowers will delight the most sweet.

After five days of party, the compostelanos dismiss the Carnival with a satirical procession that finishes with the traditional burning of O Meco in the Toural square, an appointment to the assistants go of black in signal of mourning.

After the farewell of O Meco, the Xenerais da Ulla take over from the festivities in the city. During this original celebration of uncertain origin - declared Event of Tourist Interest of Galicia in 2013 – a group of characters travel on horseback and on foot different places. During his tour a series of dialectical confrontations are carried out in which a satirical social chronicle is carried out and, later, to sign the peace.
